What
are the different types of dreams people can have ?
I believe that there are three types of
dream that can take place whilst we are asleep. It is generally
agreed upon in scientific circles that dreams take place in the
REM stage of sleep (Rapid Eye Movement). And it's this occurrence
which is responsible for giving us a good night's sleep. If you
get a lot of REM, you will feel refreshed and alive
in the morning ! You'll dream a lot too.
The types of dream you can have are as follows...
1.
Psychological dreams
These dreams are usually abstract, yet
use certain bits of information picked up from the previous day,
week or even month - especially if an issue with a hard mental
impact is being experienced by the person dreaming.
Stress, trauma or dealing with difficult situations can often
create dreams whereby you feel you are being hunted down by a
hideous monster of some sorts. Other classic scenarios can include
being trapped high up, unable to get down or being stuck in a
lift.
Although these dreams can occur in many different forms, they
are usually all subconscious messages given by our brains to make
us more aware of things. Things that we choose to ignore or pacify
in our conscious state of mind. Either that, or they are just
our way of venting pent up emotions in coming to terms with what
may be going on in our lives.
Very often, we can overcome nightmares by gaining control of these
situations - becoming aware of when we are dreaming and making
the decision to take over and deal with it in any way we choose.
If we directly confront the danger in our dream, it loses its
power.
Of course, psychological dreams aren't always doom and gloom.
Sometimes they can inform us of our true feelings towards something
or someone. If we try to deny something that we know is true and
need a little nudge to remind us of how we really feel - dreams
can help us to look at things more openly.
2.
Psychic dreams
If you're very lucky (or in some cases
unlucky), you may at some point experience a psychic dream. For
those of you reading this who have had psychic dreams - you will
know what I mean when I say that these are not like normal psychological
dreams. These dreams are very profound and upon waking up, you
will 'know' that the dream you've just had is extra special.
Sometimes psychic dreams are merely cold observations with no
feeling or emotion. You may take the place of an observer - casually
watching as some kind of event unfolds in front of you. With these,
you'll probably feel detached from what is going on but can still
see, hear, taste and smell everything around you. You may also
pick up small psychic impressions giving more detail, such as
knowing that this event will take place at a certain time and
date and with certain people.
This type of dream often serves as a premonition to warn of impending
danger, either to ourselves or others. These must be adhered to
- as failing to read the signals can
result in whatever the dream was about, happening. It is my belief
that although the future does have a pathway, we still have freedom
of choice and can change things for
the better. All we need to do is start recognising the signs.
